WWW Wednesday – 3.13.19

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived on Taking on a World of Words. If you participated in your own post, please feel free to leave a link in the comments, so I and others can see! Otherwise, feel free to leave a comment with your responses. I’m always happy to hear what other people are reading.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I’m making progress on Vision of the Future at a very nice pace and might actually be done with it by the time this post goes live. I’m reading and enjoying this much faster and much more than when I last put it down. I think what’s fun about it is I have no idea where most of the different storylines with the characters are going. Also, the plotline with Jorj Car’das is so wild! I loved him in Outbound Flight, so seeing what he became here has been interesting to say the least.

I’ve started a late ARC of Beneath the Citadel, and while I really liked how the characters were introduced, the pace has slowed up a bit. I hope it picks up soon, but I know based on Iron Cast that Destiny Soria has written a slower first half that compels a faster second half, so let’s hope that’s the case here.

I’ve only just started Children of Blood and Bone, and that first chapter was definitely gripping. The world building is already very cool, and Zélie’s voice is a strong one. I’m kind of side-eyeing the mean girl thing going on between Yemi and Zélie, but if it’s rooted in genuine rivalry and ambition (and also, colorism) rather than just general cattiness, then I can dig it. As much as I love female solidarity, I don’t think every female character has to always get along with every other female character just because. As long as there’s an actual reason for the animosity, y’know?

What did you recently finish reading?

Obsidio: Fantastic ending to a fantastic sci-fi trilogy! I love the Kaufman/Kristoff duo and can’t wait for their next book together, Aurora Rising.

Gun Moll: Awful, shallow romance; plot, what plot? I can’t even call this a mafia book with a straight face. [Review]

The Mermaid’s Voice Returns in This One: Heartbreakingly beautiful free-verse poetry with some hard messages, though also full of vulnerability. [Review]

White Stag: A debut novel that sadly needs world building to be established. Unengaging characters and a nonsensical plot, DNF’d at 56%. [Review]

Wildcard: Not as good as I hoped it would be, but still fun. I liked learning more about the side characters and Zero. The Emika/Hideo ship still slays me, but I wish Emika had been a bit more active as a character.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’m so excited to start King of Scars! I gotta know what happens!!!

Graceling is a book I’ve been lowkey eyeing for a long time. Well, my roommate Elizabeth read it and loved it, so I want to read it and love it, too.

Soul in Darkness looks like it feeds the dark romance urges that I have that need to be fulfilled. I took a chance on buying you, so please be good, please be good!

Also, I like how I keep accidentally color-coding my upcoming reads list. If this is a subconscious trend I’m doing, then I’m not mad. Especially if it keeps working!

What have you finished reading lately? What are you currently reading? Are you having trouble deciding what to read next?
